Happy Mardi Gras: Carnival and Revelry

Mardi Gras just so happens to have originated in our hometown city.

While New Orleans may do it bigger, we are quick to remind them that we are the reason they have adopted the celebration, and WE are the ones that do it right!

For an entire month leading up to Ash Wednesday, the streets of downtown are lined with baracades (or ‘bear caves’ accoriding to my youngest)

and parades roll through the streets each night,

with grand balls that follow afterwards,

all culminating on Lundi Gras and Mardi Gras with entire days and nights full of Carnival fun!

It is a spectacle to be had. Huge outlandish 2-tiers high floats make their way down the streets,

while their occupants toss beads,

doubloons,

stuffed animals,

moon pies,

and other random things,

such as ice cream sandwiches,

ramen noodles

and

bars of soap.

Yes, bars of soap. Just in case you feel a little dirty…

Today we feast! Tomorrow we fast!

Happy Mardi Gras!
